OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
Shadowed by three meandering mountain
chains, Bolivia's best surprise is its fascinating
geographic diversity. With its extremely varied,
rugged landscape and erratic climate, this
rough-around-the-edges country is ideal for an
intimate and immersive adventure. Walk across
moon-like deserts, marvel at spectacular scenery
and absorb the serenity of expansive windswept
plains. Discover Bolivia with Travelmarvel how it
should be, off the beaten track.
THE BOLIVIAN CULTURE
Bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile
and Peru, the cultural depths and richness
of the Bolivian culture are as diverse as the
differing origins of people who reside within.
Descendants of Quechua, Aymará, Chiquitano
and Uru people, Bolivia's patchwork cultural
traditions can be geographically broken into
three groups: those who inhabit the forests,
the Andes, and those from the Chaco region.
LAGUNA COLORADA
Known as the Red Lagoon, Laguna Colorada is an
impressive salt lake tinged with red algae, rolling
mountains and cracked rock shores. The water
is a rich orange-red hue, perfectly contrasted
by large white pools caused by borax deposits.
Classified as an endangered species, the rare
bread of puna flamingo, as well as the Chilean
and Andean flamingos, regularly flock to the 65
square kilometre lake. The surreal reserve is also
surprisingly shallow, at less than one metre deep.
