50 Rail Journey Through the Ecuadorian Highlands Enjoy a four-day rail journey through the majestic landscapes of the Ecuadorian Andes. THE ECUADORIAN ANDES Running the length of Ecuador from the western coastal lowlands to the eastern jungles, the mountains and valleys of the Ecuadorian Andes form the heart of the country. With an average altitude of over 4.5 kilometres, volcanic activities take place as frequently as every 15 minutes at the 'Avenue of the Volcanoes'. On this rail adventure, you'll glide alongside fast-flowing rivers, over deep ravines, around mountains and through cloud forests, as you travel into the striking Andean highlands. TAKE A TRIP THROUGH HISTORY Constructed in 1908, and restored between 2008 and 2013, this amazing example of railroad engineering is considered to be a symbol of unity for the country of Ecuador. Linking the coastal city of Guayaquil to the capital Quito, this unique, fully restored four-coach steam and diesel locomotive features a refined historical design. On board, a yesteryear style flows through each carriage to the handicraft shop, panoramic lounge room, old-style coffee bar and even the open-air terrace. INCREDIBLE EXCURSIONS While the passing landscapes are certain to impress, it's the daily excursions that allow you to immerse yourself in the culture and history of Ecuador. Enjoy breathtaking scenery, the whisper of volcanoes, snow-capped peaks and the colourful coastal mosaic as you stop to explore pockets of the highlands. Joined by expert local guides, you'll discover several rural villages of this unique region. You'll also experience true Ecuadorian hospitality during overnight stays at three lovely local hotels. 50 Main image: enjoy spectacular views during your incredible train journey aboard the Tren Crucero – www.travelmarvel.com.au –
