WATERFRONT BUSINESS In brief… Indonesian widows to get ACC The widows of five Indonesian fishermen killed when the trawler Oyang 70 sank were given accident compensation so that ACC's no-faults system was not compromised, according to Prime Minister John Key. The widows did not receive compensation from the ship's owners but had received ACC payments equivalent to seven times what their husbands would earn in a year. ACC for foreigners working in the New Zealand jurisdiction had always been a "tricky issue", Key said from Jakarta, where he was leading a trade mission. He said the Government allowed foreigners to receive compensation because otherwise overseas companies would have to be self-insured, meaning they could sue for accidents, compromising ACC's 24/7 no faults system. "It's the same ... when tourists come to New Zealand and break their leg skiing, we ultimately end up paying ... We could exclude them ... New Zealand operators would end up having to have private insurance and that starts to undermine the ACC system." Official: Carey's in liquidation Carey's Boatyard (1992) Limited are in Liquidation. The latest McClay 1100 Walk Round Sport Fisher Boat Show attendance tops 36,000! ATTENDANCE AT THE popular show was also approximately five per cent higher than in 2011, meaning more than 36,000 Kiwis visited the four-day show. "We worked very hard to attract both dedicated buyers and family groups to this year's Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show," says general manager Dave Gibbs, "and it looks like we succeeded. Our family- friendly areas such as the Club Marine Discover Boating Centre, the Youthtown Aqua Fun Zone and the new Dinghy Central Malcolm Bazely's native geckos at Auckland Council's Treasure Islands stand display offered the chance for people of all ages to experience a wide range of boating activities." Skipper magazine's vote for the brightest light at the show has to be for the paint job on the new McClay 1100 Walk Round Sport Fisher, and Auckland Council's Treasure Islands display showed us what a fantastic place our Hauraki Gulf really is. The 2013 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show will be held at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane Auckland on May 16-19, 2013. Now with the US Coast Guard pushing ballast water ratification, global shipowners must ramp up their BWT decision-making choices. We are one of them," said Lars Traaseth, Managing Director of SSH.
