On arrival in New Orleans this morning, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Two Night Stay: The Roosevelt New Orleans. DISCOVER NEW YORK CITY For all the global attention New York City receives, its appeal only becomes truly apparent once you've wandered through Midtown Manhattan; been dwarfed by the Empire State Building; and been dazzled by the lights of Times Square. Until you've watched the yellow cabs weaving through the streets; bought a bagel from a street vendor; and been astonished by the tranquillity of Central Park. Because only then are you able to begin to understand the diversity, charm and incredible substance for which this grand city is renowned. Signature Experience 128 EXPERIENCE THE BIG EASY Day 2. New Orleans. After a Welcome Breakfast this morning, take a city tour of New Orleans, one of the most culturally and historically rich destinations in America. Visit such landmarks as Jackson Square, St Louis Cathedral, the Garden District and the French Quarter. You'll also see where the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina and learn about the city's efforts to recover from this disaster. Later, head for the nearby swampland, where a high-speed airboat adventure will take you skimming over the famous bayous and right up close to the native alligators. Tonight, dine at Antoine's Restaurant, which has been serving delicious French-Creole cuisine in the heart of New Orleans since 1840. BD CRUISING THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI RIVER Day 3. New Orleans, Embark Mississippi River Cruise. Today you'll board your luxury small-ship paddlewheeler for the beginning of your cruise along one of America's most famous rivers – the mighty Mississippi. After settling in to your Stateroom, this evening, head for the Dining Room and enjoy a Welcome Dinner. Seven Night Cruise: Queen of the Mississippi – stay in a spacious Twin Window Stateroom. BLD Day 4. Oak Alley. Today you'll dock right out the front of Oak Alley – a magnificent and historic mansion and plantation located in the community of Vacherie, Louisiana. After disembarking, wander under a 240-metre-long canopy of towering oak trees that were planted in the early 18th century. Enjoy a tour of the wonderfully restored Greek-revival-style antebellum mansion and its impressive grounds, including several reconstructed slave quarters. Afterwards, re-board your ship and continue north along the Mississippi River. BLD Day 5. Baton Rouge, St Francisville. This morning disembark in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. Here, you may like to join a local guide for a tour of the Old Louisiana State Capitol, a 160-year-old downtown statehouse that is now an interactive museum detailing the history of Baton Rouge and Louisiana. Alternatively, tour the Louisiana Culinary Institute and enjoy a cooking demonstration. Both groups will then re-board your ship for lunch. Later, in the small town of St Francisville, learn about the traditions and lifestyles of the Old South's wealthiest inhabitants during a tour of the home and grounds at Rosedown Plantation. Afterwards, visit the charming store known as Grandmother's Buttons, which has carved itself a unique niche by using antique buttons to create stunning items of jewellery. Then return to your ship and continue your cruise, heading for the section of the river that acts as the border between Louisiana and the state of Mississippi. BLD
