TENNESSEE Day 7. Natchez. Overlooking the Mississippi, Natchez was an affluent and important city before the American Civil War. On an Historic District Tour here, you'll visit Longwood Mansion, an octagonal house that was never completed due to the onset of the wat. You'll also see many of the city's restored homes and buildings, including fine examples of antebellum architecture. After returning to your ship for lunch, this afternoon, perhaps head to the JN Stone House for a classical music concert and wine reception. Or learn about the life of early Natchez cotton planters at Frogmore Plantation – a working cotton farm. In Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, you might choose to tour the Old Louisiana State Capitol, a former statehouse that's now an interactive museum. Alternatively, tour the Louisiana Culinary Institute and enjoy a cooking demonstration. BLD Day 10. Oak Alley. Today disembark at Oak Alley – an historic mansion and plantation in the community of Vacherie, Louisiana. Here, wander under a 240-metre-long canopy of towering oak trees that were planted in the early 18th century. Then enjoy a tour of the restored Greek-revival-style antebellum mansion and its impressive grounds, including several reconstructed slave quarters. Afterwards, continue cruising towards New Orleans. BLD Day 11. New Orleans. On arrival in the city of New Orleans, a guided tour will take you to such landmarks as Jackson Square, St Louis Cathedral and the Garden District. You'll also see where the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina and learn about the city's efforts to recover from this natural disaster. Afterwards, enjoy a closer look at New Orleans' vibrant French Quarter during a walking tour. This afternoon is then yours at leisure to further explore.
