Four tips on personal relationships in your
marketing
1) Re-connect with your customers and clients on a personal level such as calling them over
the phone, meeting up with them for a meal or a drink, or talking to them through Skype.
Participate in some form of verbal communication with them.
2) Attend local networking or professional groups. Get to know like-minded people, meet
different people and make new connections or learn valuable information.
3) Ask people for two or more business cards. This shows that you are interested in them and
think they are a valuable person. Not only will you be helping other people out that might find
this person useful but that person will be extremely flattered.
4) Go a little old school. Rewind the tech clock and start using the telephone and writing
letters again. Believe it or not, some people ignore their email and only respond to a personal
note or telephone call. Find out how that person likes to make positive connections so that you
can be one of them.

Outrageous marketing
'Two Guys Smoke Shop' owner, David, Garofalo, has been in the cigar business for over 27
years. For the last 17 years, he has been investing in some outrageous marketing for his business.
It started when Dave and his business partner wanted to host an anniversary party for their
business that would be dubbed the hottest ticket in town, and that's exactly what it has become.
Even when they first hosted the party, Dave flew in celebrities and movie stars, organised a fine
night of entertainment and gave away extravagant door prizes as he still continues to do. There
is always a top prize of the night and for their 25th anniversary this was a brand new Rolls
Royce Silver Spur. It contained 250 silver bars inside the vehicle that were minted especially for
the occasion. This eccentric marketing earns Dave millions of dollars of publicity before and
after the party. A lot of the time they even manage to break even the cost of hosting such a
spectacular event. Selling at around $200 a ticket with a maximum of 500 being sold, this event
usually sells out within the first few days.
It seems outrageous marketing is not such a bad idea. What type of over the top promotion

And the winner is...
The Oscars have been and gone and although we are happy for those that won, we are
jumping on the bandwagon supporting the need for more women to be nominated. The
statistics are outrageous! There were 140 male nominees and only 35 female nominees. Last
year, there were six categories with completely no women nominees and this year there were
seven. Aren't we supposed to be moving forward in our acceptance of diversity? Putting an end
to segregation? It's not like there aren't any fantastic females to nominate, there are plenty of
worthy women out there that could be in line for such awards. Petitions have been started on
global blogging sites such as Women in Media against this huge difference in the male/female
ratio and bloggers have joined in the petition too.
