Flower Chandelier Gaze upwards at Choi Jeong Hwa's signature inflatable flowers as they burst into bloom inside the Gallery's atrium. Choi's eye-popping work turns an overabundance of petals into a joyful jumble of flowers that spill illuminated from the atrium's ceiling. www.aucklandartgallery.com Exhibit your art to an audience of thousands Choi Jeong Hwa, Flower Chandelier, 2011 Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, commissioned 2011, generously supported by Molly Morpeth Canaday Trust. "We have lots of plans to help mark 10 years as New Zealand's largest art show and we want the 2013 show to shine with some outstanding art. I encourage all artists to come on board and help us celebrate." www.artshow.co.nz Signature Piece Art Award Janette Cervin "My work references the themes of the 16th century Vanitas Painters, beauty, abundance and the transcience of life." www.artshow.co.nz Extra Opportunities for Artists A $5,000 cash prize recognizing an excellent piece of art will be awarded to one of 10 finalists which will be exhibited in the Signature Piece gallery at the New Zealand Art Show. The winner is decided by a public vote during the show. In 2013 Ben Timmins's piece 'Paradigm Sunrise' was the winner. The powerful painting was 1.6metre in diameter, oil on poplar wood grain with a copper band frame. It depicts a Blue Heron overlooking a surging river, with a subtle Fibonacci-inspired pattern integrated into and rising up through the wood grain itself. www.artshow.co.nz Haere ra Ralph "Warrior artist" Hotere Artist Ralph Hotere, who has died aged 81, was a "warrior artist" whose provocative work portrayed some of the country's most divisive historical events.
