Editor's Note Indulge me Time out… yes I know what it is and I even know that I should enjoy more of it; possibly for the people around me as well as myself. With aging parents, dogs reaching the end of their lives and kids that have moved into the first stages of their adult life, it's now time to stop and smell the roses. Hmm, not so sure I even know how to do this anymore and it all stems from an absolute love of what I do and the pure excitement of the ever-presenting opportunities in my life. So if one is not great at taking time out, how do you achieve a balance? And yes, I do believe there is another way other than lying flat out on your back, greased up with sun lotion, a large bucket of wine beside you and a huge novel in your hands as you enjoy the fruits of a remote island that lacks for any technology. I've been there and I truly know that if you take away all the usual platforms of communication, I will simply find another way to keep myself occupied... possibly in the form of an extensive business plan, the development of a new collection or the total conception of a new idea. This all comes with the territory of a life that keeps you on fire and I simply can't make any apologies for that. So how do you balance it up? You simply make sure that you pay forward at all levels. Yes, that means it's not all about you. It's about how you can, with your extensive platform of skill and knowledge, help others; others that are less fortunate and others that can truly benefit from a collaboration of some sort with you. For me, it's the nurture projects that I am involved in. At the moment I'm loving working alongside Phoenix Cosmetics and Kiri Nathan. Our recent trip to China where I introduced them both to the possibilities of this market got us all extremely excited. While it will take time for them to develop the relationships and secure the products that they want and need, they have at least made a start and can see the wonderful possibilities of trading with this country. Supporting others is my way to make a real difference. Seeing others grow and enjoying success in their personal or business lives is my reward and actually gives the balance that I need to enable my business drive to continue. So my immediate indulgences do tend to be about growing others' dreams and visions but on occasions I can be a little more about me. So here goes with a list of what I do when I am not dreaming, scheming and planning... • • • • • • • • • • • • There's nothing like a good session of Pilates for mind body and soul (three times a week) A great book A west coast beach walk with an over loved boxer dog A great meal out with a favourite Syrah, accompanied by my girlfriends, my sisters or my hubby Thursday and Friday nights see me watching Coronation Street… I'm a bit of a fan! I love to travel to warmer climates. My time in India was exceptional last year and I look forward to an island holiday this year (Aitutaki Pacific Resort being my special spot) I love a great opera and will be attending Madame Butterfly in Auckland this April My garden (albeit a little overrun) still has well pruned roses. I love to roam with secateurs Shopping for shoes is the only shopping I love to do Skyping my kids Eating ice-cream on a trip home from the beach Finally sleeping in on the weekend These are all the little things that round out my life. Yep, I'm just the same as the next person… really! I love getting feedback from our readers, and Letters to the Editor is a great way for me to get your comments and your input to Her Magazine.
