Gardening
in season
With today's technology, we've gotten used to food
always being readily available, regardless of the season, but there are many
health benefits to eating fruit and vegetables in season, not to mention
benefits to the planet.
Produce you buy when it is not in season, has been brought to you across
long distances, therefore is not as fresh and is often picked before it is
mature and at its best. Not only does this affect the fresh taste of your
fruits and vegetables, it can cause vitamin degradation and nutrient loss.
Transporting fruits and vegetables across the globe also has a huge impact
on our planet: increased gas emissions, pollution, as well as depletion of
the earth's energy resources.
For this reason eating fresh fruits and vegetables in season is so important,
as well as choosing organic fruits and vegetables wherever possible.
