This little workboat is tight in the turns LINE WORKBOATS The smaller, nine metre Line boats designed by Tim Barnett of Marlborough, are serious-looking boats designed to take the knocks. They are solidly designed and built, with a full belting at deck level and an added tough belting on the coaming. The cockpit is fully self draining, and there is a large snout with a fender on the bow for pushing or bow loading. Dominating the cockpit is the solid, single-staghorn reinforced tow post. A raised handrail on the coaming provides added safety for the crew and keeps the tow line up and clear of the water, while the stern berthing cleats are below the coamings with small panama ports in the top. Amidships either side, are two solid bits for when buttoning on to push, explaining the large inflated fenders. Up forward is a raised focsle with full height rails for personnel transfers. There is additional stowage in the focsle and a lock-down flush-deck hatch to get into the forward void. The protective deckhouse is open at the back and is designed to give the helmsman excellent all-round and above vision, even when working ships. Hi-Tech Plastics have designed and supplied the very practical adjustable helm seat. In front of the helm is a raised footlocker for safety gear and for keeping crew boat bags out of the way. Fire extinguishers are mounted to port and in the corner is a raised hatch giving access to the engine room. Powered by a single Caterpillar C7-315hp marine diesel, coupled to a ZF280-A1 2.227:1 gearbox driving through a conventional shaft, is a 28x31 four bladed propeller with a large single blade rudder at the rear. This combination, while still giving a reasonable service and transit speed, is designed for towing and manoeuvrability.
