Nothing fancy, just a solid dinghy capable of sneaking around and under wharves, or as a useful vessel tender. These vessels are already turning Australian maritime heads and are receiving their nods of approval. Its a bit like when the Aussie boys see a good sheila, they cant help themselves. Not only are these working girls good-looking, they have good padding up front, with solid rear ends, and are capable of carrying a good load at a reasonable turn of speed. What more could you ask for! Nice one Kiwis. Proud suppliers to ProFab Engineering and the NZ Boating Industry for over 20 Years. Out of the marina with a bit of power on, these small work boats quickly lift to a respectable service and transit speed of 22-24 knots, while still retaining the grunt to get serious when towing. VIP.S91 The engine room is fully sealed down with a large service deck hatch giving access for servicing the beast. There are two large air intakes either side of the deckhouse protected by Seaworth Defence air/water separating filters to ensure that the Cat gets ample dry cool air, and warm air for working in warmer climes. Like their larger brothers, the engine space is protected by an onboard fire suppression system. Once again, consistent across the fleet, these vessels are fitted with Furuno NavNet system with radar, GPS, chart plotter, sounder, VHF and AIS plus full engine electronic instrumentation and diagnostics displays, with all controls and switch panels easily at hand. Lighting throughout, including the aft deck working lights, are all Hella LED lighting systems to give bright light on low power draw. Down below, the ships power and start batteries are protectively housed in non-corrosive polyethylene Hercules battery boxes. Up top on the cabin roof, is the large Surviva 16-man liferaft in a flat pack container, packed to meet Australian Coastal requirements. Mounted in its cradle, it is fitted with both manual and automatic hydrostatic pressure release systems. Why so large a raft? The clue came earlier when we spoke about the raised bow and the vessels capacity for crew transfers and the hand rails around the boat. It all adds to the versatility of these very functional vessels. These Line designs are no nonsense, user-friendly, workboats. Once flashed up, apart from the burble aft, the puppy below was very well behaved with only moderate engine noise, enough to remind you of what you were doing. Manoeuvrability within the marina was very good for a single engine vessel and at low revs with a bit of rudder control, one could track directly astern NZ MADE BOATING ACCESSORIES FOR NZ MARINE CONDITIONS March/April 2013 Professional Skipper 19
