Where do all these deals come from?
How do discount sites source great deals?
We go to great lengths to source the right products from a
number of suppliers. This is an important part of the process
for us as customers not only want great deals, but great
products.
What's in it for them?
For us, sourcing great deals is the foundation of our business.
We work with suppliers to offer them access to our market
and at the same time we offer our market great products at a
great price.
What's in it for the companies who offer their
products on your site?
We offer our suppliers exposure but also a great source of
cash flow. It has worked pretty well for some new products
where suppliers see increased sales in retail stores.
What's next for discount sites? Where is this retail
experience heading in the future?
Over the past two years, we have seen more and more deal
sites propping up in this space. This is not sustainable in the
long run. At least five deal sites have shut down in the past six
months and we will see more consolidation of deal sites this
year. We have drawn up some new plans for this year which
will bring change to the 'deal a day' industry. We were the
first deal site to offer free deals in 2008, Deal A Day Dollars,
a reward system for every purchase in 2009. The concept of
random pop up deals in 2010 and 2012 – you will have to wait
and watch.
Retail experience has been heading more and more online
over the last number of years as customers become more
comfortable with online commerce. This will only intensify as
younger shoppers come through. An online retail experience
is a great way for customers to compare prices, get feedback
on products and get great deals all without having to deal with
city traffic and parking hassles.
