SHOPPING HABITS
'People aren't shopping' is not a good enough excuse
THE CONSUMER HAS CHANGED and if you're a
retailer, it's time to not only get your head around it – but
also embrace the changes.
You're one yourself, so you'll know all about the changes I'm
referring to. Admit it; you're a savvier shopper than you once
were. You know that you have more choice today than ever,
and whilst at times that can be somewhat daunting – it's
also exciting, as it means that you now have the power. How
often have you felt supremely peeved that someone hasn't
given you the service or product you expected and you've
grumbled that they'll never be able to run a business like that
if they continue in that manner?
Well, you were right. They won't be able to. Businesses
everywhere are closing simply because they don't have
enough customers to sustain themselves. We hear this and
write it off as the 'GFC' continuing to affect
the business world, "People aren't
shopping". But is that really the case
or is that a convenient excuse to
mask a business that isn't keeping
up with the service and product demands of the
modern savvy consumer and as a result is turning people
off or away?
So what does the modern savvy consumer look like? She
looks like YOU. She knows mostly what she likes and wants and
she expects and demands you to be intuitive, helpful, willing
