108: pinkpages Helena Mcalpine to front NZBCF Campaign Helena Mcalpine is one of the best known female British voices in New Zealand. Over the last six years, Helena has been an on air host for C4 and a corporate voice for UpFM, The Edge FM, C4 TV and BOP FM. In 2009, Helena was first diagnosed with breast cancer and at the beginning of this year was told the cancer had returned and has only months to live. The mother of one will be fronting the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation's 2012 BCAM TV commercial. In New Zealand seven women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. In a population our size, these women aren't strangers; they are our mothers, aunties, daughters, wives, and friends. They are our women. NZBCF are on a mission to share a message of love and hope with every single one, ensuring the women we love know how to stay healthy, safe and here with us. This message will come in the form of a Breast cancer needs volunteers The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation is seeking an additional 3000 volunteers nationally to help with its Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, which this year will run over two days, Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13. The appeal is the biggest fundraiser in Breast Cancer Action Month. Funds raised in the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal will be used to educate younger women about breast cancer and the need to be aware of their family history and other risk factors. The money will also help fund the Foundation's wider work in community education, research, and supporting women with breast cancer. Former TV presenter Helena McAlpine, herself street appeal song; a song dedicated to all Kiwi women, shared with them by the people who love them most. The song is Chris Knox's incomparable 'Not Given Lightly' and will be a new recording, produced by SJD and featuring some of the greatest New Zealand artists of our time including Chris Knox, Tim Finn, Hollie Smith, Tiki Taane, Jon Toogood, Anika Moa, Boh Runga, Julia Deans, Don McGlashan, Alec Bathgate, Hinewehi Mohi, Peter Urlich, Jackie Clarke, Princess Chelsea, Alisa Xayalith, Brooke Fraser, Martin Phillipps, Warren Maxwell and The Topp Twins.
