Day 8. Kings Canyon. Journey into the heart of Watarrka National Park, where unspoiled bush and red rock canyons create an unforgettable experience. The Luritja Aboriginal people have called Watarrka National Park home for more than 20,000 years. This morning, embark on the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. Venture around the rim of the canyon's incredible sandstone walls, which formed when small cracks over time eroded to create the spectacular canyons that appear today. After reaching the summit, you will marvel at breathtaking views of Watarrka National Park and the canyon itself. About half way along is the Garden of Eden, a beautiful area of cool waterholes and riverine vegetation. Descend into this green oasis, before heading back to your start point. After lunch back at the lodge, perhaps take a walk to Kathleen Springs. Signs along the track convey stories of Aboriginal culture and the local cattle industry. Follow the trail to a waterhole at the head of Kathleen Gorge. This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the area's tranquillity. BLD Day 9. Kings Canyon, Uluru. Today, explore the incredible Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Visit Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), consisting of 36 majestic domes, which form deep valleys and steep-sided gorges. An important Indigenous cultural site, Kata Tjuta translates to 'many heads'. The tallest known as Mt Olga, towers a staggering 546 metres high. Continue to explore the immense red walls of Walpa Gorge, before making your way to Uluru. In the heart of the Red Centre, the luxury of Sails in the Desert complements the surrounding natural beauty. This evening, enjoy dinner at your resort. Two Night Stay: Uluru, Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort. BLD Day 10. Uluru. At sunrise, enjoy a base tour of Uluru, learning about ancient traditions and stories from the Dreamtime while you marvel at this Australian icon. While you circumnavigate this amazing natural landmark, the experience will leave you mesmerised. Rising 348 metres above the plain, this national treasure is higher than both the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Chrysler Building in New York. Tonight at your resort, indulge in the renowned 'Sounds of Silence' dinner under the stars. Begin with canapés and chilled sparkling wine served on a viewing platform overlooking Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, where a stunning sunset awaits. When night falls, listen to the sound of a didgeridoo as you help yourself to a 'bush tucker' inspired buffet that incorporates native ingredients such as crocodile, kangaroo, barramundi and quandong. After your feast, retreat to your luxurious accommodation. BLD Day 11. Uluru, Coober Pedy. Journeying into South Australia, make your way to the Umoona Opal Mine, where you will watch an informative award-winning documentary presented in an underground theatre. You will learn about the different types and quality of opals, as well as visiting a mine that was worked in the 1920s. Stay: Coober Pedy, Desert Cave Hotel (underground rooms).
