:gala darling Last word... Gala Darling New Zealand born, Gala Darling, is an international blog sensation living in New York City with her husband, Mike and their two dogs, Hank and Dolly. She started galadarling.com in 2006, initially as a fashion blog but it has grown to be so much more than that! Her passion is teaching women how to fall in love with themselves and how to have fun at the same time! Gala is the Beauty & Style Editor at xoJane where she writes on all things beautiful like covering up terrible pimples and how to get perfect sex hair. Her fortnightly column, Hello, Darling! appears in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Canberra Times, Brisbane Times and WA Today. Gala is one of the headmistresses at the Blogcademy a weekend retreat to spank your inner blogging bad girl! She has a regular spot on TVNZs Good Morning show as a cultural correspondent (and New York ambassador!). In a past life, Gala was the Fashion Editor for Red Bulls cultural magazine, ChinaShop and a fashion columnist for Cosmopolitan Australia. CHOOSING THE RIGHT OUTFIT FOR THE RIGHT OCCASION Getting dressed should be an experience. Light some candles, turn up your favourite music and have fun with it! I love to dress to express my mood, so I always start by thinking about how I want my outfit to feel. I also believe in pre-planning your outfits. I have a habit of drawing prospective outfits which I then pin to a board! Instant inspiration. ALWAYS SMELL LIKE Vanilla, coconut, candy. I am a fan of what they call "gourmand" scents, and always want to smell nibbleable! One of my favourite shops in the entire world is Lucky Scent in Los Angeles: a tiny boutique full of unique and rare perfumes, where you are attended to by an immaculately-coiffed man with tattoos and a waxed, curled moustache. Exquisite! ACCESSORISING AN OUTFIT Coco Chanel said you should always take one thing off before leaving the house, but truly, I think most women UNDERaccessorise! With a smattering of accessories, you can be wearing the same dress as the woman next to you, but look completely different. Start to experiment with hats, statement necklaces and belts with fabulous hardware! It's never too late to dial up the glamour! BUYING SHOES My shoe closet is split between practical footwear - motorcycle boots, Hasbeens, neon pink gym shoes - and fantastical, ridiculous, super-sparkly heels that really have no business being 128 | www. h e rmagaz i n e . c o. n z on anyone's feet for longer than five minutes. My most recent shoe purchase was a pair of black glitter mary-jane Miu Mius with a silver sparkly sole. I mean, they are glorious. But I haven't worn them yet... LOOKING FANTASTIC IN FIVE MINUTES ...Is easy when you have your make-up routine figured out! I use Hourglass primer, Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, Kat Von D concealer, a swipe of NARS bronzer, blush and highlighter, fill in my eyebrows, use a black pencil for a no-fuss cat eye, then add mascara. So simple. Additionally, you can cut down on your prep time in the morning if you get eyelash extensions! Instant chic! STAY AWAY FROM Processed foods and men wearing jeans tighter than yours. WEB SHOPPING Is my kryptonite. I feel like I am always browsing asos.com late at night, hunting for my next obsession! THE NEVER-FAIL FROCK Should be tight enough to show you're a woman, but loose enough to show you're a lady. EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE A shocking pink lipstick that brightens their face. My current favourite is Schiap by NARS. Yes, Schiap as in Schiaparelli! HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH ? There is no such thing! More is more is MORE, darling!
