Sun protection in skin
care and cosmetics is
relatively new, yet
incredibly important.
THE RETRO ERAS BRING back memories of
fun loving and carefree ideals. You cant take a walk
down memory lane without recalling Mary Quant
and Biba, short skirts and bare skin. As loving
and spirited as these times were, sun protection
was not well researched and long days spent in
the sun unprotected have taken its toll. We now
have messages everywhere warning us about the
sun and its effects. But how deep do we need to go
with our skin care and what products do we really
need?
SPF is available in a variety of cosmetic
products from makeup to skincare and beauty
treatments. It is not necessary to have an SPF in
makeup if you are wearing a sunscreen in your
moisturizer or under your foundation as this adds
a layer of protection. However, it doesnt hurt and
can be beneficial to your skin for added defence.
I would recommend having a high SPF in at
least one of your daily used products and applying
it over your whole face and neck area. SPF 8 is
the minimum; some brands go up to an SPF
of 60 for added cover. An SPF not only helps to
protect your skin, foundations and moisturises
containing this are also formulated with a unique
combination of ingredients to provide additional
protective and repairing qualities.
Hand creams with a strong SPF help to keep
your hands looking younger. Hand creams work
to increase surface cell renewal whilst the SPF15
helps protect the skin against future external
damage, helping to guard against premature skin
ageing.
Try to keep your skin as protected as possible
against the sun. Be aware that sunbeds will age
and dry your skin the same way exposure to the
sun will do. When out and about, cover up and
use sunscreen to defend yourself against the ageing
and damaging results the sun gives to our skin.
