BEST FLEA MARKET IN LONDON: CABBAGES AND FROCKS MARKET
(#1 on Map)
At the west end of London's 'square mile' you will find the infamous 'Cabbages and Frocks Market', which uses the jocular cabbage in the title to imply the English phrase, load of old cabbages. What this translates to, for all you wily foreign visitors, is that while you might find a great vintage or retro frock there, you may have to wade through the muck (cabbage) to get it. Started by London designers who want to sell their items at sale prices, it is well worth a rummage. As an added bonus, there are a lot of specialist foodie stalls here too, ensuring that you won't leave hungry. And don't forget to look sharp as the eagle eyes of London's designers will be upon you; this is pretty much their out-of-work hang out. St Marylebone Parish Church Grounds, Marylebone High Street, Marylebone, London W1U 5JD. (Marylebone) Ph: 020 7794 1636; Open Sat-Sun 11-5pm; www.cabbagesandfrocks.co.uk
BEST ORGANIC STORE: DAYLESFORD ORGANIC FARMSHOP & CAFE
(#8 on Map) The latest of Lady Bamford's eco-friendly food stores must
be the world's most glamorous farm shop. Not only are the sandwiches made from bread made in-house, but the bread is made from their own flour. In their market garden, all their organic food - fruit, vegetables and herbs - are all seasonal. Their organic meat is sourced from the animals in their own farm, who roam freely and graze on lush organic pastures, free from artificial growth promoters. Their Cookery School courses are designed to make the most of organic seasonal food using simple techniques and recipes, whether it's learning how to prepare and cook meat and game, discovering the benefits of cooking with raw food, preparing a special dinner party without neglecting your guests, or how to cook fish and shellfish. I can guarantee you'll never be the same after a visit to Daylesford Organic; it will leave you re-evaluating your choices in food and developing a new respect for Mother Earth, despite the abuse that we heap on her as a human race. 208-212 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, London W11 2RH.
