FASHION: BEST ACCESSORIES: JADE JAGGER (#8 on Map) Tucked away behind the Portobello Market you will find the stylish Jade Jagger flagship boutique. Opened in 2009 to a glitterati guest list which included a certain parental figure, Jagger has a specialist jewellery range to die for. Gracing her display cabinets are gorgeous gold and emerald rings, with mini sculptures on the bands, combined with ruby and tourmaline edges. In another piece, amethyst and diamonds weave together into a pattern of understated chic that you'd feel quite comfortable wearing to the Glastonbury Rock Festival. Check out The Kiss necklace or ring, which is her signature piece - guess where the inspiration for those lips came from! 43 All Saints Road, Notting Hill, London W11 1HE. Ph: 020 7221 3991; Open Tues – Sat 10–7pm; www.jadejagger.co.uk BEST PLACE FOR PERFUME: PENHALIGON'S (#2 on Map) Why buy standard perfume when you can have a signature scent all of your own? Established in 1870, Penhaligon's is renowned for their luxury gifts and unique range of fragrances for women and men. A favourite of the aristocracy, you can have a signature perfume produced exclusively for you or someone special for that ultimate gift. With approximately 60 signature scents available for purchase - like Bluebell, Blenheim, Artemisia, LP Number 9 - the store itself is enchanting, with old fashion apothecary drawers, historical photographs adorning the walls, and the royal warrant seal for all to see. Many notable persons - Winston Churchill, Rudyard Kipling, and Prime Ministers David Lloyd George and Ramsay McDonald - have been scented at Penhaligon's. 125 Regent Street, Mayfair, W1B 4HT. Now sold in department and specialty stores throughout the world, Lulu Guinness bags frequently become collectibles, with the Victoria & Albert Museum retaining some of her work. With a huge celebrity fan base - Dita von Teese, Helena Bonham Carter, Katy Perry, Sophie Dahl, Rachel Weisz, Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Agyness Deyn, and Alexa Chung - Lulu started her business from the basement of her home. Her innate personal style and no-holds-barred ideas play a large part in the appeal of her accessories. And with no formal fashion training, her story is an inspiration to many who want to make it in the fashion world. This talented lady not only designs her handbags and accessories but also her stores. Is there no stopping her! 3 Ellis Street, Mayfair, SW1X 9AL. (Belgravia) Ph: 020 7823 4828; Open Mon-Sat 12-7pm, Sun 12-5pm; www.luluguinness.com OLDEST 'FISH & CHIPPIE' IN LONDON: ROCK AND SOLE PLAICE (#3 on Map) A lazy stroll away from the Royal Opera House and theatres, the Rock and Sole Plaice has the privilege of being London's oldest surviving 'fish-and-chippie.' Open since 1871, it serves up truckloads of reassuringly fat chips, big mugs of tea, fish cakes and daily specials, from red mullet to trout. From hordes of office workers and tourists who tussle for custody of limited table space on the ground floor, to takeaway customers and after-show theatre patrons placing their orders at the fryer, any minor lack of comfort is worth enduring. But be warned: there isn't as much as a whiff of burgers and kebabs on the traditional menu. 47 Endell Street, WC2H 9AJ. (Covent Garden) Ph: 020 7836 3785. www.hermagazine.co.nz | 123
