166 | WILDERNESS LODGE EXTENSIONS NORTHERN LIGHTS ADVENTURE 5 DAYS – YUKON EXTENSION 2 Nights Whitehorse | 2 Nights Northern Lights Resort & Spa Day 1. Arrive Whitehorse. Nestled between British Columbia, Alaska and the Beaufort Sea, Canada's Yukon Territory is just about as remote as it gets. It's where in summer, the sun shines brightly until the stroke of midnight and in winter, the brilliant natural phenomenon known as the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, glimmer across the sky. This is your chance to experience nature's own theatre for yourself as you embark on the journey of a lifetime. Be met on arrival in Whitehorse this morning and transfer to your hotel. Spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring this remote city where gold rush influences remain front-and-centre. Perhaps visit Whitehorse's many galleries and museums, or you might like to take a relaxing stroll along the banks of the enormous Yukon River, which runs through the forests and peaks of Yukon Territory and Alaska for some 3,190 kilometres. Later, set out on your unforgettable viewing of the Northern Lights. Keep warm with hot beverages and snacks in a heated tent or cabin. Stay: Whitehorse, central location. Day 2. Whitehorse, Northern Lights Resort & Spa. The historic sights of Whitehorse are illuminated as you set out on an enlightening guided city tour. See the dry-docked SS Klondike standing guard on the riverbank, pass by the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad station, wander down Main Street and marvel at the craftsmanship of the world's only log cabin-style cathedral. The afternoon takes you onwards to the stunning Northern Lights Resort & Spa. Located in the rugged countryside on private land away from the city centre, this secluded hideaway is the perfect place to see the Northern Lights, with plenty of open space nearby and no light pollution. Take the time to unwind and familiarise yourself with your surrounds before enjoying a delicious dinner. This evening, be sure to keep an eye on the skies for the magnificent Aurora Borealis. Choose from numerous amazing vantage points – soaking in the hot tub, sprawled out in an open field or from the comfort and intimacy of your room. Just be sure to turn your gaze skyward. Two Night Stay: Whitehorse, Northern Lights Resort & Spa. BD Day 3. Day at Leisure. Today you're left entirely to your own devices. Perhaps curl up in front of the fireplace with a book or relax in the Finnish or infrared sauna. Alternatively, rug up and dive into the wintry wilderness on a selection of optional excursions that are also available (own expense). Adventure-seekers might want to embrace the winter conditions and try their hand at dog mushing, learn to drive a snowmobile or embark on a nature tour through the Yukon's boreal forest. After dinner this evening, look out for the Northern Lights curtaining the sky. BD Day 4. Northern Lights Resort & Spa, Whitehorse. Spend this morning at leisure before returning to central Whitehorse. Later, watch for the elusive Aurora Borealis one final time at the Northern Tales Trading Post viewing point – the best place in the city from which to watch the kaleidoscope of colours. Stay: Whitehorse, central location. B Day 5. Depart Whitehorse. Your journey ends today. After breakfast, be transferred to Whitehorse Airport for your onward flight.
