A hint of light flickers across the clear,
star-studded night sky. As you wait with
bated breath, the spectacular Aurora
Borealis bursts into a rippling, shimmering
dance of blue, purple, yellow and green
above the remote plains of Canada's
Yukon Territory.
Surreal and utterly magical, the Aurora
Borealis has an otherworldly, dreamlike
quality, evident in its symphony of every-
changing light and colour. Named after the
Roman Goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the
Greek name for the north wind, Borealis,
the spectacle is steeped in myth. Finnish
folklore refers to an Arctic fox spraying
snow with its tail, while some Canadian
Inuit thought them to be gods of harvest
and hunting. Scientists describe the
phenomenon as an interaction between
electrons and neutral atoms, leaving a
unique impression on the sky and those
lucky enough to see them.
