Letter's to the Editor Kia Ora Annah, Skilled migrants Recent migrants from India represent some of the most highly qualified of all the migrant groups in New Zealand, but they face discrimination from local employers resulting in less than half using their qualifications, according to Namasté New Zealand: Indian Employers and Employees in Auckland by Massey and Waikato Universities Source: EEO Trust Private education In the year to July 2011, private schools lost 669 pupils - 2.2 per cent of their rolls as at July 2010. Rolls have been leaching about the same rate since 2009, the year after the Global Financial Crisis according to Independent Schools of New Zealand. Consumers Price Index figures supplied by Statistics New Zealand show payments for private school fees nationally have grown twice as fast as prices generally since 2006, rising 32 per cent in five years. In 2011, private primary school fees jumped 6.7 per cent and private secondary school fees 5.4 per cent - not including boarding fees. Source: Fairfax NZ News Power nap More American companies are seeing the benefits of allowing employees to take power naps at work. According to an employee benefits survey of 600 American companies, conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, 6% of workplaces had nap rooms in 2011, a slight increase from 5% the previous year. Even more suggestive, a 2011 poll of 1,508 adults by the National Sleep Foundation found that 34% of respondents say their employers allow them to nap at work, and 16% said their employers also have designated napping areas. Source: CNN Money Hi there all! I would like to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this issue of Her Magazine. Why? Because it is online and on my laptop and not wasting paper! The colours are vibrant, the layout, pics and graphics are bold and sassy, and the articles are good quality reading material pertaining to New Zealand issues and global ideas/ businesses. Secondly, I have been able to email articles to ex-pat Kiwi friends over in New York, Ireland and London, and to my partner. I recently added myself to Annah's Facebook page and read on her wall a congratulatory comment about the Her Magazine online mag. I too feel that this is a wonderful implementation and as I stated in my comment this truly brings the business into; a) the digital age, and b) more importantly, into the 'sustainable business model' category of businesses. Just think: NO waste of paper! People, planet and Annah's profit benefit from this move to sustainability. Well done Her Magazine Online! Well Done. Cheers to all and a great start to 2012. Veena Soma Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for the free digital copy of Her Magazine. I have been comparing the Dec/Jan copy in both hard and digital mediums. I enjoy both and can see that (for me) there are strengths and weaknesses to both options. I am delighted to report that I have been favourably impressed with the digital copy. I especially enjoyed the font changing ability and the links – stunning clarity too. At times loading of heavy graphic content was a fraction slow (but that could relate to my computer). It's so wonderful to see a magazine that is aimed specifically at women that has such intelligent content.
