INGRID BOOT IS KNOWN for her illustrative style, realism and meticulous attention to detail. The English-born artist has always had a passion for painting the female form whilst portraying a timeless elegance. "My mum had her own business and an office at home so I
always had an endless supply of printer paper to draw on, and I would copy black and white photographs of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Fashion photography is what inspires me – not other artists as much," she says. "Two images that remain as striking today as when first shot are Soiree de Decembre featuring an evening dress by Yves Saint Laurent for Christian Dior, photographed by Richard Avedon in 1955. Westminster University, London, followed by a three year illustration degree at De Montfort University in 1994, and then emigrated to New Zealand in 2000. Ingrid has been exhibiting in New Zealand since 2004 and has
won several awards including the prestigious KG Fraser Award at the Royal Easter Show in 2008. "The market for art is much smaller in New Zealand compared to
the United Kingdom, but harnessing the internet allows me access to a far greater market and I can sell my work to people all over the world. Conversely, being an artist is a solitary job and I'm grateful for the closeness and supportive nature of the arts community, I don't believe you would get this anywhere else in the world."
