But we have the skills and strong work ethics and standards. Since I have very strong communication skills, we are able to put this to good use. Best thing about having your own Chris Ivers Chalis Group Business description: Advertising to Women. We create, name, design and communicate brands that women will love. Chalis understands how to talk to women in a way that engages and resonates, through channels that are effective and trustworthy. Best thing about having your own business: Being able to determine my own destiny Date the business was founded: 2008 What made you start the business: A belief that there was a better way to engage and connect brands with women. And quite simply I got tired of seeing advertising that was either insulting or underestimated female consumers. With women making over 80% of all purchasing decisions it seemed a big market for brands to be getting wrong. Future goals and aspirations: To successfully grow clients brands and see the difference we can make in their businesses. To get the Chalis to a size where we can put something back into the community and support other women in growing themselves. Valuable learning experiences: Trust yourself. That gut reaction or that little voice that tells you something isn't right is not often wrong. And once you have identified the problem, do something about it then and there! business: The best thing about having my own business is I can see and feel the growth of it. Since I have my own different management style and think and operate out of the 'norm', I can excel in this industry and since I am an analytical problem solver, this skill set works well. What made you start the business: NZletting is based in Christchruch and is a company made up of landlords. NZletting is unique in that ALL the tenants' money goes DIRECT to the landlord. We also offer New Zealand's cheapest flat monthly fee (+gst). This was the biggest reason why we chose this business because we have both been landlords and tenants so we feel strongly that the rent needs to go direct to the landlord. Future goals and aspirations: Future goals are to grow this so that we become Nelson Property Rentals Ltd. 9 Coleman Street, Richmond, Nelson 7020 03 7443177 027 544 3177 Jackie&Ron@nzletting.co.nz www.nzletting.co.nz the main choice in Nelson for Landlords and to become head of the industry here. Life learning experiences/training/ research has got me to where I am now; one has to be honest and open. Hero/role models: "Spock" off Star Trek, very logical. My mum, my wonderful partner and kids. Chalis Group Level 1, 166 Richmond Road, Ponsonby, Auckland 09 370 0050 chris@chalis.co.nz www.chalis.co.nz Hero/Role Model: My business coach Arthur. What started as a business relationship ended up as a wonderful friendship. And even though he has now retired he still manages to wow me with his insights and offer guiding words. Thanks Arthur, I bet I drove you crazy at times! HER MAGAZINE | December/January 2012 | 151
