collide When worlds INFLUENTIAL FASHION DESIGNER AND business mogul, Annah Stretton is collaborating with Kiri Nathan to create a collection of divine evening frocks. After rising to notoriety with a string of accolades (most recently winning the Evening and Bridal sections at the 10th annual Cult Couture Awards) and launching the Kiri Nathan Label in 2010, Kiri hopes to take her designs to the next level with help from one of the best in the business. The Mt Wellington-based mother of five studied a three year diploma in Visual Arts, majoring in Fashion at M.I.T before launching a career as a flight attendant. Fourteen years later she went back to her roots, entering design competitions and showing others (as well as herself) just what she was capable of. The label Kiri Nathan is a reflection of her Maori and European cultures encompassing a range of gowns of elegance and sophistication supported by feminine fashion-forward glamour collections. Over the last decade Kiri has won numerous fashion competitions including the New Zealand Smokefree Awards, New Zealand Wearable Arts Awards, Miromoda Fashion Awards, the Supreme Award at the Creative Youth Awards and the coveted Supreme Award at Westfield Style Pasifika, New Zealand's most prestigious fashion competition. Her designs caught international eyes and an opportunity came up that could not be passed. "A New York-based journalist from National Geographic was coming to New Zealand and was interested in doing a piece on me. She preferred to cover either a show or the launch of a new product. In two weeks I put together two fashion shoots and an entire ready-to-wear collection with no budget," Kiri says.
