HUNT FOR FOSSILS ON
SVALBARD
Discover a landscape shaped by ice over
centuries as you set out from the world's
northernmost settlement, nestled deep within
Norway's Svalbard archipelago. 60 million years
ago, the mammoth glaciers and rugged peaks
of today were covered by lush river deltas and
thick vegetation. Follow a local geologist into
the stark wilderness and hike up the moraine
from the Longyearbyen Glacier, eyes peeled for
fossilised ferns and prehistoric plant life dating
back to the Precambrian Era.
WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF
NORSE CHIEFTAINS
Step inside a Viking longhouse and into the
world of ancient Norse chieftains. At the historic
site of Borg, explore the remains of a powerful
homestead believed to be the home of a local
Chieftain during the Middle Ages. Wander
through the faithful reconstruction and trace
the outline of the original structure at the
nearby Tufta excavation site. Hear stories of
daily life in the Viking Age, then raise a glass of
mjød (mead) and enjoy some dried cod, the way
the locals once did.
SHARE A FIRESIDE FEAST WITH
ARGENTINIAN COWBOYS
Only a few kilometres outside Buenos Aires
lie the lush and fertile grasslands of the vast
Pampas, home to millions of grazing cattle. At a
local cattle ranch, meet legendary Argentinian
cowboys, known as gauchos, and join them
for a long lunch beneath the open sky. These
skilled horsemen whose profession traces back
to the 18th century, today are a national symbol
of Argentina, celebrated in folklore for their
lifestyle and exceptional skills. Sip fine local
wine, listen to traditional folk ballads and savour
asado straight from the grill.
