UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE & SCOTT POLAR RESEARCH INSTITUTE Scientists will undertake fieldwork on board our expedition ships and join our voyages to share their expertise with our guests. Viking is sponsoring a Chair-Viking Professorship of Polar Marine Geo-science. THE POLAR CITIZEN SCIENCE COLLECTIVE Creates opportunities for research and public education through citizen science, leveraging the reach of polar travellers to enhance understanding and protection of the fragile polar regions. NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION & GREAT LAKES ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH LABORATORY Conducts innovative research on the dynamic environments and ecosystems of the Great Lakes and coastal regions. Our ships have been designated weather stations, from which we launch weather balloons. AKVAPLAN-NIVA Akvaplan-niva scientists are engaged in cross- disciplinary research programs on water related issues. On our ships, the NIVA FerryBoxes are installed to sample sea and lake water to provide continuous information about oxygen levels, temperature, salinity and other data. THE CORNELL LAB OF ORNITHOLOGY Ornithologists will regularly be on board, field testing new observation methods and providing guest advice and interaction. IAATO & AECO Viking holds a provisional membership with the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IA ATO) and Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO). NORWEGIAN POLAR INSTITUTE Permitting authorities approving all of Viking's science activities in Antarctica. KEY PARTNERS Our lead partner is the University of Cambridge's Scott Polar Research Institute, whose scientists will conduct fieldwork and share their expertise with our guests.
