:buisness in brief BUSINESS Big business in bite sized snippets IN BRIEF D'Arcy Polychrome AUCKLAND COLOUR COMPANY Auckland entrepreneur, Rachel Lacy, is passionate about paint, and she setup the company D'Arcy Polychrome with the help of her mother. This new company produces dry colour pigments that are easy to formulate and mix into conventional industrystandard water paint. The concept was a solution to the problem they had experienced after 15 years in the industry; they were frustrated with the colourants, technology available and the distribution network. D'Arcy makes good quality colours readily available across a huge distribution network without having to put in new colour wheels and large stocks of colourants. The company has proved an international hit amongst investors such as designers, architects and paint companies who see the opportunity to package their own exclusive colour ranges in an easy way. D'Arcy is using the investment to develop its own dedicated laboratory in Parnell, Auckland after raising more than $100,000 over target! Rachel's advice for budding entrepreneurs is that the idea, concept or service doesn't need to be overly complicated to be good; it just needs to be well executed. HELP SUPPORT FOR SEXUAL ABUSE SURVIVORS HELP was founded 30 years ago when doctors identified the need for specialised support of survivors of sexual abuse. Thousands of people have been helped over the years by the hundreds that work hard to support them when they need it most. On 18 April this year, HELP ran their annual event 'Colour Me Purple Charity Auction'. They received a huge amount of generously donated goods which meant that 100% of the proceeds could go directly toward the provision of HELP's specialised services. One such good that was donated was an Annah Stretton private styling event for 10 which raised $1,050! Needless to say, expectations were exceeded and they are already looking ahead to next year's auction! The canine-inclined can sign up to find a dog-walking buddy; to make new friends; or, if they are in the mood for something more than puppy love, they can look for romance. As a dog owner, Hynes understands that blending families isn't just a tricky business for human beings. Any romantic prospects who fail to bond well with someone's beloved pet can easily find themselves in the doghouse. It seems plenty of other dog people feel the same. Launched just after Easter, the site has found instant attraction among the doggy community, drawing 300 members already. The Melbourne-based entrepreneur, who is also a qualified canine masseuse, is finding it appeals to singles, couples and people who are looking to connect with other pet-lovers in their community.
