However I had one meeting with Clare Ellis from Bayleys and my opinion fast changed. We were convinced that Clare was as passionate and dedicated to selling our home as we were. We were very frank with Clare and asked for her honesty as to the price she felt we could expect. She does not try and give you a price that is not achievable just to get your business. Her honesty in the real estate game is a refreshing change. She took over everything and we went to market the following week with a 3 week marketing campaign ending in a successful auction. We were kept notified every step of the way and were able to achieve above the sale price we wanted. Thanks Clare for taking away all the pressure and making selling our house such a stress free process." L & J Mole lare Ellis remembers her first sale like it was yesterday. In 2008 after a successful career in marketing, the UK born mother of two entered the real estate industry marketing a beautiful character villa that had been relocated from Mt Eden to Greenhithe. With a fantastic marketing spin centered around the 'Grand Old Lady' Clare welcomed huge numbers through open homes, and come auction day the $690,000 valued property sold well above expectations for a whopping $802,000. "My first sale signaled the beginning of a long and challenging career in real estate, and showed that my effort and hard work in gaining my qualification had been worthwhile," says Clare. "The happiness that house brought to its new owners confirmed to me that this was the job I needed to be in." Once Clare had a few more sales under her belt she set about making a name for herself in the industry through networking, joining local business groups and getting involved in community events and activities. "For the past three years I have organised and hosted an annual charity fundraising event. It has been a great way to give back to my local community, with an added advantage of increasing my brand exposure. The last event featured fashion house Repertoire, actor Shane Cortese and with the help of award winning Bayleys auctioneer Daniel Coulson, we raised over $6,000 for KidsCan and Greenhithe School. The planning for this years' event is well underway and with Sarah Laurie as the guest speaker focusing on looking after 'number one'; it is set to be a special event." Today Clare markets and sells premium residential and lifestyle homes, primarily in sought-after Greenhithe and surrounding areas on Auckland's North Shore for Bayleys Real Estate Limited. She has again been named the No. 1 Residential Agent in the Albany Office, and is in the Top 5% of Bayleys Agents nationwide. After five successful years in real estate Clare has learnt to never judge a book by its cover, that no two listings are ever the same and that integrity, honesty, communication, and attention to detail are always welcome attributes in a sales agent, but are imperative to achieving success. "There are many unique challenges in the real estate industry and time management, communication and attention to detail are essential skills. My experience has shown that whilst having these skills is essential to a rewarding career, many can only be developed with time and industry experience. " Clare also explains that being a woman in real estate can be both an advantage and disadvantage. "I can empathise with women completing a sale or purchase who have often formed an emotional attachment to a property, where men commonly appear to view it purely as an investment or a business deal. Having this empathy can also be a disadvantage as while I value both sets of opinions, I need my clients to make decisions based on fact rather than pure emotion." Clare is ready to assist no matter how extraordinary the request – she's even been asked to sell a house without any advertising, signage or web presence. "Honestly, it's really hard to sell a secret!"
