Vernon, Giverny OR Château de Bizy. Enjoy a morning of scenic cruising through beautiful north-west France. Arrive in Vernon, and perhaps travel to Giverny, former home of the French Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. Here, visit Maison et Jardin Claude-Monet (Monet's House and Garden), and take in lovely scenes that inspired many of Monet's famous paintings. Alternatively, tour the palace and gardens of the Château de Bizy (subject to availability). Inspired by Versailles, Château de Bizy is still the home to a branch of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's family. BLD Day 13. Vernon, Rouen. Set in the heart of the Normandy region and once one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe, Rouen is a place of incredible history and architecture. On disembarking here today, a city tour will take you to some of Rouen's most enthralling sights. Walk among the distinctly French half-timbered houses; see the Cathédral For pricing see overleaf World War Museum – the Juno Beach Centre. It then takes you to the Pegasus Monument in Ranville, where the first bridge was liberated by British glider troops on D-Day, before returning to the ship. Alternatively, the third excursion departs Rouen on a trip to the Pays d'Auge, taking in the sights of The Cider Road. Visit traditional towns and villages, and enjoy a tour of a Calvados distillery, where you'll sample cider and Calvados before returning to your ship. BLD Day 14. Rouen, D-Day Beaches OR Pays d'Auge. Today choose from three excursions. The two that trace the events of D-Day – June 6, 1944, will take you from Rouen along the Normandy coast to Arromanches, where you'll enjoy free time for lunch and a visit to the D-Day Museum (own expense). Afterwards, one excursion visits the US cemetery of Colleville/ Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, which overlooks Omaha Beach, before travelling via the Pointe du Hoc Ranger Monument back to your ship in Rouen. The second includes a visit to Canada's Second Day 15. Rouen, Honfleur OR The Norman Abbey Circuit. Once again today, you'll enjoy a choice of activities. Perhaps join an excursion to the seductively pretty port city of Honfleur, set at the Seine estuary, opposite Le Havre. Here, a sightseeing tour of the city takes in the cobbled streets, the old and picturesque port area, and Saint-Catherine's Church, the largest wooden church in France. Then enjoy some time at leisure to explore before returning to Rouen. Alternatively, travel a stretch of the historical Route des Abbayes (The Norman Visit Richard the Lionheart's Château Gaillard Enjoy a riverside stroll in Les Andelys www.aptouring.co.nz ROMANTIC RIVER SEINE CRUISING See Rouen Cathedral on a guided tour Notre-Dame, which has the highest spire in France; and admire the Gros Horloge, a 16th-century astronomical clock. You'll also learn about the real story of Joan of Arc as you see the 14th-century courthouse where she was sentenced to death, as well as the Market Square where she was burnt at the stake. After the tour, enjoy time at leisure. With your ship moored overnight in Rouen, you may like to step out after dinner for an evening stroll. BLD 119
