Step into your best
looking feet with a
home pedicure
A LITTLE MANUAL LABOUR is all it takes to have hands and
feet to be proud of – rather than ones you want to hide! There's no
point in slicking your nails with colour if they're not in good condition
to start with. Following this advice will ensure they're ultra tough and
less likely to break.
FILING KNOW HOW
Keep your nails slightly square or oval not pointed, to prevent them
from breaking. Filing low into the corners can weaken nails. File gently
in one long stroke from the side of the centre of the nail.
CONDITION-PLUS
Smooth your nails with a nourishing oil or conditioning cream.
This helps seal moisture into your nails to prevent flaking and splitting.

TOP FIVE NAIL TIPS:
A tiny drop of olive oil is a great cheap alternative. This can be done
once every evening if you are prone to splitting.
CUTICLE CARE
Go carefully with tough overgrown cuticles. Most manicurists are
against cutting them with scissors as this can lead to infection of the
nail bed. Instead, soak your nails in warm soapy water to soften the
cuticles. Then smooth them with a little cuticle softening cream or gel,
before gently pushing them back with a manicure hoof stick or clean
cotton bud. You can then gently scrub away the flakes of dead skin
that are still clinging to the nail bed.
COLOUR ME BEAUTIFUL
Lastly, give your nails a splash of colour for instant glamour. Apply
a bottom and top coat for longer lasting nail colour.

1. Avoid using acetone nail polish removers, as these can strip your nails of essential moisture. Choose the conditioning variety instead.
2. The most common cause of soft nails is exposure to water, so wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes.
3. Dry wet nails in an instant by plunging them into ice cold water.
4. If you're planning to do messy gardening work, drag your nails over a bar of soap. The undersides of your nails will fill up with soap,
which means dirt won't be able to get in.
5. To repair a split nail, tear a little paper from a teabag and glue it over the tear with nail glue. Once it's dry, buff until smooth and then apply
nail polish.
