Art made with a paint brush/ drawing vs. a computer It is amazing what you can do with photoshop these days. For those with the creativity to unleash, there are now ways to explore your passion if you do not have the ability to draw or paint. Scrapbooking vs. online photobook The era of digital cameras is marked by instant gratification; you can snap a picture and text or email it to 10 friends in a matter of seconds. But too often, images languish, unseen and sometimes forgotten, in a desktop folder or on a memory card. SCRAPBOOKING If you're a fan of cutting and pasting then scrapbooking is a great way to display your memories in a creative way. I love the idea of passing down scrapbooks to your children and grandchildren that were made by you with love. www.justscrapping.co.nz ONLINE PHOTOBOOK With online photobook services, it's easy and fun to give photos a tangible (and well-designed) home. We tried five popular tools and created books that play to the strengths of each one. Whether there's a baby to celebrate or a vacation to remember, these personalized volumes make truly memorable keepsakes. ANTIQUE SHOPPING Check out the comprehensive database of antique stores throughout New Zealand www.myantiqueshops.co.nz Trade Me From the comfort of your home you can search through a constantly updated shop of antiques and shop to heart's content. www.trademe.co.nz Farming vs. FarmVille Tending to a crop of land, whether it be physical or online takes a lot of persistence but most in the farming community would agree the benefits reaped from edible produce far exceeds those sown on the internet. FARMING To be self-sufficient it is the Kiwi dream. New Zealand's primary industries as of August 2012, generate 71 percent of New Zealand's overseas merchandise trade (exports). New Zealand itself occupies a land area of around 27 million hectares with pastoral agriculture occupying some 11.25 million hectares.  By way of comparison, the area of native vegetation (excluding other native land cover) is 11.7 million hectares. What better way to contribute to our great country then by farming the land and increasing our export revenue. www.nzfarming.co.nz FARMVILLE In 2009, social network game developer, Zynga, developed FarmVille. Gameplay involves various aspects of farm management such as ploughing land, planting, growing and harvesting crops, harvesting trees and bushes, and raising livestock. With jobs done and goods grown, players earn farm coins which they can then use to further develop their farms. I'm not sure how satisfactory it is to spend hours growing a crop and to not then be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour. www.company.zynga.com/games/farmville Antique shopping vs. Trade Me Spending weekends and holidays taking in the countryside and stopping in at antique shops along the way is a favourite pastime of many Kiwis.
