alltorque Green 'n' Mean The future of environmentally friendly motoring is hotting up with some of the coolest luxury hybrids on the planet, writes Isaac Bober. Porsche Panamera S Hybrid It might not be as 'phwoar-some' to look at as the Jaguar, but the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is the real deal. It has a similar-sized engine to the Jaguar and is similarly oomphy. However, its battery pack is so small that it will run for only about two kilometres on electricity alone (the same goes for all Toyota hybrids). Despite the size of the Panamera, the cabin feels quite cramped, and it isn't actually that good to drive. Shame. It doesn't look that good either. Shame, shame. However, Porsche is a relatively small – and stubborn – car maker, so the fact that it has added an electric motor to both the Panamera and the Cayenne is pretty impressive. What's under the bonnet? There are several different types of hybrid, but conventionally speaking it's any vehicle that combines an everyday combustion engine with one, two or more electric motors. The donk provides primary drive while the electric motor provides a bit of extra zip or clean, green drive at traffic-snarl speeds, but only for short bursts – usually less than two kilometres. 46 Jaguar C-X16 Besides being eye-achingly gorgeous, the Jaguar C-X16 is the pin-up of the clean, green sports car movement. Sure, it's only a concept, but it's a production concept, which means absolutely everything in it has been designed and engineered to be used in the real world. That said, you won't see a C-X16 parked at your local shopping centre any time soon. However, you will see the F-Type, which was spawned by the C-X16, so you should probably start holding your breath now for a hybrid variant of that car. Beneath the C-X16's shapely bonnet is a blood-soaked three-litre supercharged V6 that slams out 280kW of power and 450Nm of torque. This is supplemented by an electric motor that offers an extra 70kW and 235Nm of oomph, making it the Usain Bolt of hybrid cars. It will get to 100km/h in a blistering 4.4 seconds, or less time than it takes to read this sentence. The way it looks is simply the icing on the cake.
