Built by Bruce de Baugh and Commando Boats, the barge is powered by twin 50hp outboards. It is designed to retain a good sea keeping quality and arrive at a beach or island, unload a quad bike, deploy the wheels and draw bar, hook on, and then tow the barge along with its remaining cargo up the beach to a safe place out of harm's way above the high tide line. Bruce said the cut profiles provided by Scott were so true that the bits all went together like a jigsaw with no additional cutting or grinding. The hull is positive buoyant with the outer two longitudinal voids being foam filled. The main central part of the hull is a single void fitted with both auto and manual bilge pumps and alarms. Constructed in marine grade 5083 alloy, the hull form rises to a hard chine, at which stage the design changes to a flat barge arrangement. It has 10mm stringers, 8mm doublers in the forward section of the hulls grounding area, and the reinforced bottom at 6mm. There is a 6mm deck tread, 4mm sides and 6mm transom and reinforced ramp. Due for delivery as we go to print, this vessel had yet to be fitted out with outboard motors, radio and the like for ranger service. Purpose-built for a multi purpose ranger assist service role, this vessel is going to be a great little workhorse for park rangers whose varied roles demand a lot of their ■ vessel. Custom marinised to suit New Zealand conditions. Spare parts for all cranes.
