72 | GRAND EXPEDITIONS Day 1. Arrive Stockholm, Embark Ship. Arrive in Stockholm and embark your small ship Grand Expedition. This evening, get to know your fellow passengers during a Welcome Dinner. 28 Night Stay: MS Island Sky. D Day 2. Stockholm. Tour Stockholm's Old Town, Royal Palace and Vasa Museum. Enjoy afternoon tea at historic Sigtuna then return to your ship. BLD Day 3. Mariehamn. In Mariehamn, embark on a historic tour, seeing the open-air Jan Karlsgården Museum and the fortress ruins of Bomarsund. Alternatively, take a coastal hike. BLD Day 4. Helsinki. Perhaps enjoy a tour of sophisticated Helsinki, including Senate Square and Mannerheimintie, as well as a photo stop at the Olympic Stadium. Alternatively explore Suomelinna, a World Heritage-listed maritime fortress constructed in the mid 18th century that occupies six small islands. BLD Day 5. St Petersburg. Embark upon a city tour, including the 18th-century Peter and Paul Cathedral and St Isaac's Cathedral. Tonight, be treated to an elegant evening of Russian ballet at the prestigious Hermitage Theatre, on the Palace Embankment of the Neva River. BLD Day 6. St Petersburg. Visit the opulent Catherine Palace before boarding a hydrofoil for a journey down the Neva River to Peterhof Park and Palace. Stroll the Lower Park and see the Grand Cascade and the Grand Palace. BLD Day 7. Tallinn. In Tallinn, visit Dome Hill, the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin, the Rotermann Quarter and Freedom Square. Otherwise, embark on a hike with your Expedition Team, or partake in a bicycle tour. BLD Day 8. Saaremaa Island. Today on Saaremaa Island, visit an Estonian farmhouse for a cooking lesson and traditional lunch accompanied by locally crafted wine. Maybe visit the town of Kuressaare or take a nature tour to discover the island's rich bird-life. BLD Day 9. Riga. Select from two sightseeing options in Riga. Perhaps wander the cobbled streets of the historic centre, visiting the beautiful Gothic-style St Peter's Church and perhaps admire the stunning views from the observation platform. Alternatively, embark on a kayaking journey through the city's stunning network of canals. BLD Day 10. Visby. Arrive on Gotland Island today and be greeted by the World Heritage-listed walled town of Visby. Perhaps enjoy a walking tour taking in the 12th-century Kruttornet, and Botanical Gardens. Or head to Graute Farm to learn about local rural life. Then sample saffron pancakes and visit the Old Town. BLD Day 11. Klaipeda. Founded in 1252, Klaipeda was almost destroyed during World War II. Here, perhaps set off on a sightseeing tour to the Martynas Mazvydas Sculpture Park, home to more than 180 works of art. Alternatively, discover the underground Soviet base containing the Plokstine nuclear missile launch site whose range is said to have covered all of Europe and visit the Cold War Museum. BLD Day 12. Gdansk. Arrive in the old Hanseatic port of Gdansk. See the old quarter including the Gothic St Mary's Church and the Artus Court.
