79 enjoy dinner at a local hotel before the train departs for Jodhpur. BD Day 12. Jodhpur Jodhpur is known as the 'Blue City' due to the hue of the houses within the old walls. During a morning tour you will see the impenetrable walls of the Mehrangarh Fort and Palace with fine sandstone carvings. Enjoy lunch in the Palace Hotel and visit Jaswant Thada, a white marble cenotaph. Later, rejoin the train and journey towards Agra. BLD Day 13. Agra After a visit by rickshaw to the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, rejoin the train and travel to Agra. This afternoon visit Agra Fort, the majestic red sandstone citadel and the captivating Taj Mahal, the iconic masterpiece in white marble. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1653, for his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is the world's finest example of Mughal and Persian architecture, and took at least 20,000 people 22 years to build. Return to the train for your final night on board and a Farewell Dinner. BD Day 14. Depart Delhi This morning the Palace on Wheels arrives into Delhi. Transfer to the airport for your return flight. Jaipur This morning the Palace on Wheels makes its first stop in the capital of Rajasthan, the Pink City of Jaipur. In 1876, the reigning Maharaja ordered the entire city to be painted pink, the colour of hospitality, to celebrate a visit by Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. The tradition has been followed by the residents of the old town, who are now, compelled by law to maintain the pink colour. Sightseeing includes the imposing Palace of the Winds. The palace's ornate façade once enabled the ladies of the royal court to observe life in the street below whilst remaining in 'purdah'. You will also visit magnificent Amber Fort, which perfectly embodies the romance of Rajasthan, and enjoy lunch in the Palace Hotel. Re-board the Palace on Wheels for another night's travelling as the train continues on its journey west. BLD Day 9. Ranthambore National Park, Chittorgarh Disembark the train this morning to visit the Ranthambore National Park. Here there is an opportunity to spot tigers, leopards and other native wildlife before heading to Chittorgarh to see the majestic hilltop fort, the Tower of Victory and the intricate Tower of Fame. Enjoy another night on board. BD Day 10. Udaipur The Palace on Wheels reaches Udaipur this morning. Leave the train for lunch before taking a cruise on Lake Pichola, sailing around the small island and the Lake Palace Hotel, originally the Palace of the Maharani of Udaipur. Return to Udaipur to rejoin the train. BLD Day 11. Jaisalmer This morning the train arrives in Jaisalmer, a fairy-tale walled town in the Thar Desert. Disembark to explore the narrow, twisting streets of the town centre, see beautiful merchants' houses with intricately carved sandstone façades, then enjoy a camel ride into the surrounding desert.
