78 Day 1. Arrive Delhi Arrive into the bustling Indian capital, Delhi, and be transferred to your luxurious 5-star hotel in the heart of colonial New Delhi. Take time to settle in and get your bearings – you are close to diplomatic missions, shopping malls and many historical landmarks. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening where you will get to meet your fellow travellers and Tour Manager. Two Nights: Delhi, ITC Maurya Hotel. D Day 2. Delhi Today is devoted to a fascinating sightseeing tour covering the ancient streets, temples and colourful markets of Old Delhi as well as the leafy avenues and colonial architecture of New Delhi. Highlights include India Gate, Raj Ghat, the Parliament House, Humayan's tomb, Qutub Minar and the impressive Jama Masjib, India's largest mosque. On the way back to the hotel this evening we pass the impressive 17th century Red Fort. BLD Day 3. Delhi, Kalka, Toy Train, Shimla This morning depart Delhi on the Shatabdi Express to the city of Kalka where you will board the scheduled service of the narrow- gauge Toy Train. Recently awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, the Toy Train will take you on a journey into the Shivalik mountain range to Shimla which sits at an altitude of over 2,100 metres (those guests who wish to can make this part of the journey by private car). Shimla, was chosen by the British as their retreat from the summer heat, and many of the town's buildings remain very British in style. Three Nights: Shimla, Oberoi Cecil Hotel. BLD Day 4. Shimla This morning, enjoy a tour of Shimla by Jeep and see sights such as the Viceregal Lodge, a striking 19th century Elizabethan- style mansion. After lunch, take a leisurely stroll along The Mall to the town's Gaiety Theatre, the Victorian-Gothic Christ Church and Scandal Point. A Jeep is available if you would prefer not to walk during the afternoon. BD Day 5. Shimla Today is free for you to explore Shimla at leisure. Perhaps wander back down The Mall to purchase a souvenir from one of the many handicraft shops or visit the colourful Lakkar Bazaar, a market specialising in wooden toys and crafts. You may prefer to spend time indulging in the luxurious facilities of your hotel. BD Day 6. Shimla, Delhi Leave Shimla in the morning and travel by road, for the journey back down the mountains to Kalka. See snapshots of authentic rural life in hillside villages and stunning scenery on the way to the station in Kalka where you join the Shatabdi Express for the rail journey to Delhi.
