Grand Canyon Railway Travel aboard vintage carriages hauled by historic locomotives on the Grand Canyon Railway to see the awe inspiring Grand Canyon. Arrive at the South Rim, the Canyon's main viewpoint and an ideal base to experience the dramatic vistas. Return to Williams on the Grand Canyon Railway, and this evening drive to Flagstaff to board Amtrak's overnight Southwest Chief to Los Angeles. Stay: Amtrak Southwest Chief Sleeper Train. Day 10. Hollywood, RMS Queen Mary This morning the Southwest Chief continues through Fullerton in Orange County and passes the sprawling suburbs of Los Angeles before reaching Union Station. Your first stop in Los Angeles is star-studded Hollywood. Enjoy free time here to explore the home of the USA's film industry, with the chance to walk in the stars' footsteps on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard and soak up the atmosphere. Later today, travel to Long Beach for one night on board the RMS Queen Mary. The ship, which is now a hotel, has a fascinating history as a luxury ocean liner and as a high-speed troop carrier during the Second World War. Enjoy its original 1930s artwork and Art Deco styling, with each stateroom offering a glimpse into ocean travel over the decades of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Your evening is free to spend exploring Long Beach at your leisure. Stay: Los Angeles, RMS Queen Mary. Day 11. The Coast Starlight, Monterey Travel on board the iconic Coast Starlight for a daytime journey along the stunning Pacific coast shoreline. Upon reaching the Pacific Coast at Ventura, the Coast Starlight heads north, hugging the coastline and following the Pacific Coast Highway. Relax in the Sightseer Lounge car and enjoy spectacular views through floor-to- ceiling windows. See stretches of pristine beaches as the train hugs the coast north of Santa Barbara. Entering the Salinas Valley pass the Santa Lucia and Diablo mountain ranges en route to Salinas, where you'll transfer by coach to Monterey. Three Nights: Monterey, Marriot Monterey. Las Vegas & The Golden West 1 Day 12. Carmel, Big Sur Explore the wonderful Californian coastline today, including the exclusive residences of 17 Mile Drive and the attractive waterfront of Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck. You'll also visit Carmel, where Clint Eastwood was once mayor, a charming town that has attracted artists for decades. Discover the Big Sur, where the Pacific coastline rises dramatically into the Santa Lucia Mountains. Day 13. Monterey Enjoy the day at leisure to explore. Perhaps stroll the historic quarter or visit the renowned Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. You might like to visit Stevenson House, where author Robert Louis Stevenson lived and wrote 'The Old Pacific Capital'. Day 14. Depart San Francisco Your journey comes to an end this morning.
