Arrive Anchorage Your journey begins today as you arrive in Anchorage, where almost half of Alaska's population resides. Here you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Stay: Sheraton Anchorage Hotel or similar. Day 2. Anchorage, Talkeetna Travel to the historic village of Talkeetna today, which is nestled at the base of North America's tallest peak, Mt McKinley. B Day 3. Talkeetna, Denali National Park After breakfast this morning, you'll continue your journey to Denali National Park, which is home to more than six million acres of pristine Alaskan wilderness. Meet the sled dogs of an Iditarod Musher and learn all about one of the world's ultimate long-distance sled races which runs from Anchorage to Nome. Denali National Park Travel deep into the heart of Denali National Park's wilderness during a full-day Tundra Wilderness tour led by a local ranger. You'll enjoy hands-on activities, explore the work of wildlife biologists and discover why conservation is so paramount to this part of Alaska. B Day 5. Denali National Park, Fairbanks Today, head to the city of Fairbanks. On the way, visit the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which connects the oil fields of northern Alaska to the Valdez Harbour, 1,300 kilometres south in the Gulf of Alaska. Before arriving in Fairbanks, stop off to visit the Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska. This evening, perhaps embark on an Arctic Circle Flight (see page 96).
