SPARE PARTS Manual assists and automatic responses from the automotive world The car you can drive to your desk The Zagato Volpe is the ultimate car for lazy commuters. It is so small it can be driven into a standard lift and piloted along the corridor all the way to your desk. The car, which is expected to go on sale in Italy for NZ$11,500 from next year, is built by famed Italian coachbuilder, Zagato. It measures a mere 2.2 metres in length and is just one metre wide, which makes it about as long as a Holden Commodore is wide. Source: Sydney Morning Herald New cars bring pleasure A study has found buying a new car is more pleasurable than buying a new house, new technology, or even starting a new relationship. Duncan Bone from Australia's GIO Insurance says it has to do with the fact that buying a new car is now within the reach of more of us. Source: Newstalk ZB Kiwi mums dread long car rides Kiwi mums will go to any lengths to entertain bored kids on long car rides, but they would rather a dreaded visit with the in-laws or a day spent in the office, a new study has found. Of 5,000 mothers interviewed worldwide, New Zealanders were the most creative at inventing games, bribing their children and lying in response to that back-seat whine, "Are we there yet?" And Kiwi kids proved the most patient on an average five-hour holiday car trip, with boredom after 34 minutes. Source: Fairfax NZ News Why did the chicken cross the road? A Canadian motorist has surely put himself in contention for one of the most stupid ways to get a traffic ticket. The Ottawa man spotted weaving over the road wasn't drunk, he was simply eating a rotisserie chicken from a large bowl in his lap. As a result, he faces careless driving charges and a fine of around NZ$600. The officer reported the man was driving with his knees and grabbing the wheel occasionally while eating chicken. The driver was also observed weaving outside his lane, following too closely and changing lanes without signalling. www.hermagazine.co.nz | 63
