Suzie Moncrieff been a wonderful few months of doing just that, being with friends and celebrating. Being nominated for New Zealander of the Year and finding myself in the final three was very humbling. Believe it or not I am a very shy person. I have learned to be more of a public person in recent years because I know it's important for WOW, but I don't seek out the limelight. I am happy to be relatively anonymous. Being in the company of two of New Zealand's greatest sons was a great honour. Both Sir Richard Taylor and Dr Sharad Paul have contributed so much to New Zealand and we are certainly a better country for the fact these men are passionate innovators in their chosen fields. Winning the Arts category in the 2011 Wellingtonian of the Year Award was also a surprise – not least because I live most of my year in Nelson! Wellington is the home of the WOW show so it was a special award that recognised in part the hundreds of artists and designers involved in creating the most extraordinary costumes and who contribute their talent to the Wellington shows each year. It was a celebration of our success in Wellington and something the whole WOW family can be proud of. Looking to the future I will continue to work on the dream of taking WOW out into the world, and with the success of our debut into the Hong Kong Arts Festival we now have the confidence to take that next step. WW: Tell us more about the woman behind the World of Wearable Arts: I live in an old villa in the countryside near Mapua in Nelson, with the most glorious views across the sea to Durville Island. It's an inspiring place to dream. I have a daughter, Emma who works with me on scripting and music for the show. My three-year-old granddaughter Daisy is the joy of my life and I am lucky to be very involved in her life. She is a chattering, dancing, singing creative little girl and very big fan of wearable art. I come from a very close and supportive family. My sister, Heather Palmer has been a wonderful support to me throughout the years of WOW and still works with me as the Competition Director. I enjoy spending time at my batch at Pakawau beach in Golden Bay. It's a great place to relax and re-energise. WW: What are the last 5 books you have read : The Room by Emma Donoghue A Cupboard Full of Coats by Yvette Edwards The Life of Pi by Yann Martel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup WW: What is your greatest challenge in business? My greatest challenge continues to be to create an original and inspiring new show each year to exhibit the extraordinary works of art that are entered each year from around the world. They are the 'stars' and it is a great privilege to be creating a dramatic place for them to be showcased. WW: Tell us about how you came into this business and your major learning experiences along the way: 14 | WHO'S WHO 2012
