I'm forever striving for a better work/life balance, and while I'm a wee way off, I've found letting go and delegating more often really helps. What's more, enabling those around us is important if we want to foster a strong and capable team. ... BUYING SHOES. I say you can never have enough shoes, although my husband would say otherwise! I figure there are worse addictions to have, and how can something that feels so good be bad? Check out NET-A-PORTER.COM for a superb selection! www.net-a-porter.com ... A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR NEW ZEALAND? We live in a land of great promise among so many worldly and capable people – so why is it so hard to achieve our potential? We need to take a closer look at our policies and look for opportunities to do things better. www.pwc.com/nz/en/publications/index.jhtml 130 | www.hermagazine.co.nz ... DRESSING WOMEN FOR SUCCESS. Every year, the ladies and I at PwC have a big wardrobe audit to find clothing we can donate to Dress for Success; a charity that helps lower-income women get back into work by providing business clothing they can wear to job interviews and for employment. www.dressforsuccess.org ... MENTORING OUR WOMEN. We've been pushing the glass ceiling higher for years, but it's still there and we have a way to go before we crack it. By mentoring and supporting our young women today, we'll create powerful and influential leaders for tomorrow. www.globalwomen.org.nz ... EXPLORING YOUR OWN BACKYARD. Recently my husband and I took a wonderful road trip along the West Coast of the South Island. We banished cell phones, laptops and other tools that would keep us connected to work, and truly relaxed! www.westcoastnz.com ... TAKING A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS APPROACH. A future-focussed attitude is more essential than ever to achieving long-term successes, and that's why sustainability should be part of our standard business practices. Our country's economic well-being depends upon it. www.sustainable60.co.nz ... INJECTING A BIT OF COLOUR INTO OUR CORPORATE WARDROBE? Too often in the corporate world we stick to a safe but boring colour palette. If you want to stand out from the sea of black and brighten everyone's mood be bold and go for colour.
