Be a good pursuader – this involves listening. 4. Don't worry (if you can) about what anyone else is doing. 5. Don't let the bastards get you. Unfortunately with success comes visibility, and that attracts jealousy. For some people it is not enough that they themselves succeed, but that others must fail. They are not kidding. WW: How important is it for New Zealand filmmakers are to take their place on a global stage? What holds them back? Our film industry is global but telling New Zealand stories, particularly non-genre stories or stories that do not have a real point of difference in the market, can make it difficult for a film to travel, but there is a real interest in New Zealand filmmaking out there – we have respect.
