83 LUXURY OCEAN CRUISING along the coast of Chile and Peru to Valparaíso. Shore excursions are available at an additional cost and are subject to change. Nine Night Cruise: Le Soléal. BD Day 10. At Sea. On your first full day aboard your ship, you have ample opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery as you chart a course south along the coast of Peru. BLD Day 11. Matarani. This morning, Le Soléal will transport you to the busy port of Matarani. Today's optional excursion takes you to Peru's second largest city, Arequipa, also known as the 'White City' for its heritage buildings made of white volcanic rock. Here, you'll wander the World Heritage-listed town centre and the Santa Catalina Convent (own expense). BLD Day 12. Arica (Chile). Having crossed into Chilean waters overnight, this morning you'll reach the country's northernmost city, Arica. You'll have plenty of free time to discover the 'City of Eternal Spring', so named for its mild year-round climate and warm ocean. Alternatively, join one of the excursions on offer. Perhaps travel to the Azapa Valley to visit a museum that houses a collection of the world's oldest mummies; see the ancient geoglyphs carved into the hills of the Lluta Valley; or take a scenic drive along the coast to the Chinchorro and Las Machas beaches (all own expense). BLD Day 13. Iquique. Your next port of call is one of the country's premiere resort cities, Iquique. Laid out around a dazzling crescent- shaped bay, this is indeed a lovely place to explore. With some free time at hand, perhaps explore this cosmopolitan city with a walk along the esplanade and the avenues of the historic centre. You might like to join an excursion to the World Heritage-listed ghost towns of Santa Laura and Humberstone in the Atacama Desert; go paragliding over Iquique and the glittering Pacific Ocean; or drive to the Pintados salt flat to view the ancient geoglyphs (all own expense). BLD Day 14. At Sea. Take some time to relax and recharge as you spend the day on board. Following alongside the Chilean coast, you may be able to glimpse the Andes in the distance as you enjoy views out over the open sea towards the rocky shoreline. BLD Day 15. Pan de Azúcar National Park, Caldera. As your ship makes its way to Pan de Azúcar National Park, keep a look out for marine otters and South American sea lions which frequent the coastline. Also watch for terns, cormorants and Humbolt penguins. There's adventure to be had today as you disembark and explore the coastal region of the park, whose misty, oceanfront plains run into soaring mountains and yawning canyons. Rejoin your ship and continue cruising south along the arid coast to Caldera, where the sun shines over its beaches almost year round. Step out to explore on your own or, select one of the excursions on offer. Your options include a guided tour of the town before a visit to the popular resort town of Bahia Inglesa. Or, choose a tour of the San Jose Mine, where in 2010, 33 Chilean miners were trapped underground for 69 days (both own expense).
