22 Eastern Getaway 6 Days | Launceston | Bicheno | Ross | Hobart | Port Arthur Day 1. Arrive Launceston, Beaconsfield. Your exciting Tasmanian adventure begins in Launceston today. Like a Local – make your way to the historic gold mining town of Beaconsfield where you'll embark on a locally guided tour of the Mine & Heritage Centre. A Taste of Tasmania – enjoy complimentary canapés and a Welcome Drink at the James Boag's Brewery. Then enjoy the company of your fellow travellers during a special Welcome Dinner in celebration of the Apple Isle. Stay: Launceston, Best Western Plus. FD Day 2. Launceston, Freycinet National Park, Bicheno. Like a Local – at Bridestowe Lavender Estate, enjoy an exclusive tour of the distillery, then sample delicious lavender- enhanced fare. Continue through Weldborough Pass, home to some of the oldest myrtle trees in Australia. Stop at East Coast Natureworld and see wildlife, including the endangered Tasmanian devil. Like a Local – enter the stunning Freycinet National Park, where you are joined by a naturalist guide for a gentle walk along the shores of Richardsons Beach. Arrive in the seaside town of Bicheno this evening. Later, you might like to take a penguin tour and gain a special insight into the lives of little penguins (see page 29). Stay: Beachfront Bicheno. BD Day 3. Bicheno, Ross, Richmond, Hobart. Travelling inland, step back in time at the antiquarian township of Ross. Then see one of the oldest bridges in Australia during your stop at the Georgian village of Richmond where you'll enjoy spending some free time to explore. Travelling on to Hobart, a city tour is the perfect introduction to the capital. Afterwards, enjoy time to stroll through the picturesque Botanical Gardens. Later, perhaps take a walk to nearby Salamanca Place, where a string of historic sandstone buildings, shops, bars and eateries are yours to explore. Stay (Three Nights): Hobart, RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel. BD Day 4. Port Arthur Historic Site, Hobart. Like a Local – step back in time with a visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site, before a cruise around the Isle of the Dead.
