Hobart, Salamanca Market. A fantastic array of art, handicrafts, food and oddities awaits you today at the Salamanca Market. Housing over 300 stalls, you're sure to find some whimsical souvenirs. During free time, you might like to tour Australia's oldest brewery or visit the famous Museum of Old and New Art. Alternatively, perhaps forego the day's activities and take a thrilling cruise along the rugged Bruny Island coastline (see page 29). B A DAY IN THE WILDERNESS From Hobart, perhaps embark on a flight over some of Tasmania's impressive landscapes, then cruise the pristine waterways of Bathurst Harbour and Port Davey. See page 29 for details. Day 6. Hobart, Lake St Clair, Strahan. Follow the Derwent River through the New Norfolk region to Mt Field National Park, one of Tasmania's best-loved national parks. Stop for a short walk through a peaceful forest to the beautiful Russell Falls. Take in the delightful earthly scents of musk and myrtle trees and marvel at the towering swamp gums, the world's tallest flowering plant. Then enter World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and stop on the shores of Lake St Clair. After admiring the pristine waters, continue on through rugged west coast wilderness to the town of Strahan. This evening, you'll indulge in a buffet dinner overlooking Macquarie Harbour. Stay: Strahan Village Hilltop. BD Day 7. Strahan, Gordon River Cruise, Cradle Mountain. Today, you'll cruise down the beautiful Gordon River into the remote Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and on to Sarah Island. Here, you'll enjoy a guided tour of the former penal colony. Pass by Hells Gates, the entrance to the Great Southern Ocean, and savour a delicious lunch on board before returning to dry land. From Strahan, reboard the coach bound for Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Special Stay – be immersed in nature at the beautiful Cradle Mountain Hotel. Stay: Cradle Mountain Hotel. BLD Day 8. Cradle Mountain, Sheffield, Smithton. Today you'll set out on a tour of the remarkable Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and visit Waldheim Chalet. Stop on the shores of Dove Lake to admire the breathtaking view of Cradle Mountain. Later, travel via Sheffield to the fishing village of Stanley and see The Nut, standing 143 metres above sea level. Continue to Smithton. Special Stay – relax at the charming Tall Timbers Hotel. A Taste of Tasmania – enjoy a delightful three-course dinner at Tall Timbers and savour fresh seasonal local produce, including salmon, honey and cheese. Stay: Smithton, Tall Timbers Hotel. B, FD Day 9. Smithton, Great Lake, Depart Launceston. Like a Local – indulge in the ultimate chocolate experience during a tour and tasting at the House of Anvers. Visit the Museum of Chocolate and discover the history behind the beloved treat. Next, journey along the shore of the Great Lake. Set in the heart of Tasmania, the lake attracts anglers from across the country. Continue to Launceston where you'll be transferred to the airport.
