Nuremberg played a pivotal role for the Nazis during World War II and today you'll learn about the city and the era during a World War II tour. You'll visit such sites as Courtroom 600, which housed the Nuremberg Trials. After, you'll continue cruising along the Main-Danube Canal, crossing Europe's Continental Divide thanks to the canal's series of stair-step locks. Day 9. Regensburg. Having reached the Danube River overnight, the medieval town of Regensburg awaits at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers this morning. Here, a guided tour tells of the city's journey through the ages. Later, reboard and reflect on time spent in this Bavarian jewel. BLD Day 10. Passau, Linz. You'll wake this morning in Passau where the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube. On disembarking, take a guided walking tour through the city. Then you reboard and cross the border into Austria on the way to Linz. Alternatively, you may opt to take a drive to Salzburg for a tour of the city's 'Sound of Music' sights, or perhaps travel to the 13th century Czech town of Ceský Krumlov (see page 49 for details). Day 11. Melk, Dürnstein. Today, you'll find yourself in Melk. Here, a local guide shows you around Melk Abbey, which has survived as an active Benedictine monastery continuously since its foundation back in 1089. Then, cruise to Dürnstein, where a guided walk takes you through the cobbled streets past 16th-century town houses and taverns. Later, an evening of wine tasting unwinds. BLD Day 12. Vienna. Your ship docks this morning in Vienna, Austria's celebrated capital. A tailor-made walking and coach tour then treats you to an insider's view of the city's best-loved landmarks, including the artistic icon of Hundertwasserhaus. Like a Local – this afternoon enjoy a quintessentially Viennese tradition with a visit to an old Schnapps distillery for a tour and tasting. BLD Day 13. Vienna. Today, you can take your time with a full day at leisure to discover the delights of Vienna. A sightseeing highlight is the capital's former royal residence of Schönbrunn Palace. You may like to take an optional excursion to explore this lavish Baroque palace where for centuries Austria's Habsburg monarchs resided in summer (see page 49 for details). Still on the Danube River, your ship cruises into the heart of Hungary's capital, Budapest. Explore the city's sights, including Matthias Church, the Fisherman's Bastion, Budapest's Royal Palace and Buda Castle, through the expert eyes of your local guide. On board this evening, immerse in Hungarian culture.
