44 Savannah Explorer 12 Day Small Group 4WD Adventure Cairns | Undara | Cobbold Gorge | Karumba | Lawn Hill | Lorella Springs | Katherine Day 1. Arrive Cairns. Be met on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Tonight, get to know your fellow passengers during a Welcome Dinner. Stay: Cairns, Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina. D Day 2. Cairns, Atherton Tablelands, Undara Lava Tubes. Travel from Cairns to Ravenshoe, located 920 metres above sea level at the top of the Atherton Tablelands. Enjoy lunch at Woodleigh Station then continue to the 190,000-year-old Undara Lava Tubes, a series of underground tunnels formed during a volcanic eruption in the region. Enjoy lunch, then join a Savannah guide for an informative tour. Stay: Undara Lava Lodge. BLD Day 3. Undara, Cobbold Gorge. Travel to Cobbold Gorge, hidden away within a spectacularly rugged sandstone formation. The gorge is extremely narrow, closing to a mere two metres wide in places, with remarkable 30-metre cliffs on either side. This afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise and tour through the waterways. Stay: Cobbold Gorge Hotel. BLD Day 4. Cobbold Gorge, Croydon, Gulflander Train, Karumba. This morning, journey to Croydon for a self-guided walking tour. After, ride the historic Gulflander Train from 'nowhere to nowhere'. Continue to Karumba and end your day with a sunset cruise. Relax with a cold drink and enjoy a selection of local produce as you watch a breathtaking sun set over the Gulf of Carpentaria. Stay: Karumba Lodge Motel or End of the Road Motel. BLD Day 5. Karumba, Lawn Hill National Park. Travel along the iconic Savannah Way towards Lawn Hill National Park. Journey to Normanton, then see the famous Purple Pub and Victorian era railway station. Stop at Leichhardt Falls and Camp 119, the most northerly camp of the Burke and Wills expedition before heading off-road into Lawn Hill National Park. Arrive at the property known as Adels Grove. Two Night Stay: Lawn Hill National Park, Adels Grove, in tented cabins. BLD Embrace the dazzling beauty of Katherine Gorge From Cairns, travel along the Savannah Way to the remote Top End as you discover pioneering towns, iconic pubs and working cattle stations. Journey from 'nowhere to nowhere' aboard the Gulflander Train, explore the western coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and uncover the hidden wonders of Lawn Hill and Litchfield national parks.
