13 Day Small Group 4WD Adventure
Cobbold Gorge | Karumba | Mt Isa | Longreach | Carnarvon Gorge | Toowoomba
Day 1. Arrive Cairns. Upon arrival in Cairns,
you will be met at the airport and transferred to
your hotel. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner.
Stay: Cairns, Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina. D
Day 2. Cairns, Cobbold Gorge. Today, we
travel to Woodleigh Station near Ravenshoe for
lunch in the homestead's garden, then we make
our way into the Gulf Savannah region to the
tropical oasis of Cobbold Gorge.
Stay: Cobbold Gorge Hotel. BLD
Day 3. Cobbold Gorge, Georgetown.
Embark on a guided tour and a relaxing cruise
of Cobbold Gorge, set amid 30-metre high cliffs
that narrow to just two metres wide. Afterwards,
continue to Georgetown.
Stay: Georgetown, Latara Resort Motel. BLD
Day 4, Georgetown, Karumba. Journey
along the Savannah Way to Karumba. Later,
board a sunset cruise for a memorable end
to your day over the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Stay: Karumba, End of the Road Motel. BLD
Day 5. Karumba, Mt Isa. Leave the lush
landscapes of Karumba behind today as you pass
through four ways and three rivers to Mt Isa.
Two Night Stay: Ibis Styles Mt Isa Verona. BLD
Day 6. Mt Isa, Hard Times Mine. Enjoy a full
day to explore Mt Isa. Explore the Underground
Hospital and Museum, built in 1942 following the
bombing of the Darwin Hospital. Afterwards, visit
the Hard Times Mine. Descend in the Alimak
Cage into the mine, as you learn about the
hardship of working deep underneath the earth.
Perhaps try your hand at the air-leg drill, and feel
the earth shake. BLD
Day 7. Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Winton,
Royal Theatre. In Cloncurry, tour the iconic
John Flynn Place Museum and Art Gallery,
as well as the Queensland Boulder Opal Shop.
Dine at your hotel this evening, before a visit
to the iconic Royal Theatre, one of Australia's
few remaining outdoor cinemas.
