Outback Wilderness Adventures today
Celebrating
50 Years of
Outback Touring
We're extremely honoured to share with you
a love for the Australian Outback.
From a school camping trip in 1964 to our extensive touring
program today, we always maintain a spirit of adventure and
are committed to sharing with you a passion for exploration.
An Australian Story
A school bus driver in Bayside Victoria,
it was in 1964 that Geoff McGeary took
a group of students from St Leonard's
College on a camping trip to Central
Australia. In those days, the roads were
dirt, they travelled in a school bus, and
accommodation options barely existed.
However, it must have been an amazing
trip, as today APT offers more than
100 different holidays to every continent
on earth.
Geoff has always considered Australian
Outback touring as the core of APT's
business, and during the 70s and 80s,
continued to expand and improve upon
the Outback Australia pogram.
In 1998, APT purchased Australian
Kakadu Tours and in 2003 the Wunan
Foundation invited APT to purchase 60%
of the fledgling Kimberley Wilderness
Adventures, with its network of camps in
Western Australia's Kimberley region.
After that first trip in 1964, a new era in
the Australian travel industry was born.
Five decades on, the level of quality may
be much higher, but APT still holds true to
that spirit of adventure, passion for travel,
and love of the Australian Outback.
Today, we offer expertly-crafted
adventures; from small group escorted
4WD tours, to sensational cruises,
independent air tours, and Wilderness
Lodge stays for the self-drive traveller.
This pioneering spirit shows. APT is
recognised as the touring specialists in
Australia and in particular, the Kimberley
and Outback. More passengers choose
APT for Australia than any other premium
tour operator. Similarly, APT has hosted
more people in the Kimberley than any
other operator.
Geoff's daughter Lou and her husband Rob
currently manage APT's Kimberley and
Outback Wilderness Adventures program.
